Do you remember getting your first ever mobile phone? When you got it, how much it cost, where you bought it from and most importantly what make it was? Mine personally cost £20 from Tesco and was a random brand no one had ever heard of, and the best part was that it was a flip phone. When you’re younger nothing beats getting your first phone; it’s like the first sign of freedom and independency paired with the new coolness of being able to text your friends to ask if they’re going to be playing out.
But phones have come a long way from the trusted Nokia and the classic Walkman. A decade ago technology was basic with most phones being limited to making a phone call or sending a text message; these days smart phones are capable of doing just about anything from being able to take live photos to having fingerprint and voice recognition.
Just like fashion or food, technology trends come and go; whether it’s the vintage radio or polaroid camera, most things seem to make a comeback, and the latest technology comeback for 2016 is the flip phone. Yes, Motorola is set to bring back the nostalgic handset; it’s even created a throwback video to remind us just how cool they were.
As a B2B PR agency with a focus on technology, we’re interested to see how the phone company will bring the simple handset into the future and meet the likes of Apple’s new iPhone 7, which is set to makes its debut later this year. However it’s certain that the Lenovo’s World Tech conference on 9th June will have a few extra pairs of eyes watching and waiting to catch a glimpse of the handset.
