From Miley Cyrus to the Prince George, our future heir to the throne, both have been mentioned countless times on Facebook this year. But surprisingly, neither has come out as top topic of conversation on the social network platform.
Rather surprisingly it was the new Pope that was the most talked about on Facebook worldwide this year, according to new data from the company, which measured the number of posts referring to a particular person or event, including related hashtags.
‘Election’ was the second most talked about phrase followed by the royal baby.
Singer Miley Cyrus reached no. 7 on the list just falling one place behind another viral phenomenon, the Harlem Shake. Also featuring high on the list were sad subjects like the Boston Marathon bombings and the death of Nelson Mandela.
The top ten topics which made the list are: 1. Pope Francis; 2. Election; 3. Royal Baby; 4. Typhoon; 5. Harlem Shake; 6. Flood; 7. Miley Cyrus; 8. Boston; 9. Tour de France; 10. Nelson Mandela.
The list of top topics looks a bit different in the US. The Super Bowl takes the top spot on the list, followed by the government shutdown. The appointment of the new Pope ranks at no. 6 on the list while baby Prince George only makes it to the no. 8 spot.
