We were interested to read in last week’s Telegraph that companies in the North of England are now growing at the at the fastest pace seen in any UK region according to Ian Powell, the chairman of accountancy practice PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC).
Powell said that his firm’s regional offices in the North have experienced double-digit growth over the last year with a marked increase in deals and a rise in jobs. This growth was attributed to the commercial reinvention of major regional centres and the development of advanced manufacturing to replace traditional industries. Powell also singled out Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle as cities where companies were experiencing the most rapid growth.
Powell says he’s seen significant potential across the country with businesses of all sizes showing signs of increased confidence. He claimed that UK regions were growing, with the North performing particularly strongly, with the retail and manufacturing sectors being most active.
As proud Northern dwellers, nearby neighbours to Manchester, and B2B PR practitioners based in Macclesfield we were delighted to read this encouraging story on how our region is flourishing in this tough economic climate. Let’s hope this prosperity is set to last. Who said it was grim up North?
