As a B2B PR consultancy, we are frequently asked by our clients the differing benefits various social media platforms offer business and it largely depends on what sort of business you are and what you are hoping to achieve. So, we’re interested to find out more about the launch of Ello, the latest arrival to the social networking scene.
With up to 31,000 requests an hour to join Ello, it has been created as an ad-free social network. Its creators have dubbed it as the ‘anti-Facebook’ because it contains no advertising and refuses to sell user data.
The invitation only site claims that virtually every other social network is run by advertisers with an army of ad salesmen and data miners behind the scenes recording our every move, and has even gone as far as to brand them as creepy and unethical.
Ello’s manifesto claims that a social network can to be a tool for empowerment – not just a tool to deceive, coerce and manipulate – but a place to connect, create and celebrate life.
Here at Skout PR, we’re yet to meet anyone how has signed up to Ello, so it may be hard to get an invite into this exclusive club. The jury is still out as to what the benefits of Ello will be as a platform for business, but with such a rapid rate of adoption an ethical approach to social networking, there’s sure to be a lot of interest in this new kid on the block.
