Small businesses have been heralded as the engine room of the British economy, but generally they’ve got a big challenge on their hands. As do the businesses trying to sell to them!
Limited budgets, constant change and high business risk are just some of the challenges of marketing to and supplying the SME sector. But there are opportunities too. Successful small businesses are evolving and growing all the time – looking for new ways of doing stuff or being more efficient. If you’ve got a product that helps them innovate, you could be on to a winner.
The big challenge though is NOISE! It’s a crowded market and budget is often hotly fought over. Also, if you are working with a lot of small businesses your cost per lead may need to be very low. You need an effective way of opening doors and selling, without spending a fortune to make every sale.
One of the biggest things SMEs need, however, is expert advice. They simply don’t have enough of it within their own four walls. You only have to look at much of the content in the SME media to see this. We’ve frequently used Natural Storytelling as a way of getting expert opinion out of clients and into the heads of their SME targets – to great effect.
