The hipster was a social stereotype that creeped its way into Britain in the ‘00s, and ever since it’s been commonplace to see loafers worn without socks and oversized non-prescription glasses. But now there’s a new stereotype to replace it: make way for the ‘yuccies’- ‘young urban creatives.’
As defined by David Infante from technology site Mashable, the yuccie is full of aspirations and intends to ‘be successful like yuppies and creative like hipsters.’ Essentially, they’re young people seeking their fortune without compromising their creativity or selling out to the mainstream. Some of the definitions I’ve read emphasise entrepreneurial spirit, and as yuccies tend to be a dab hand at social media, they know how to raise the profile of a brand they might have.
Perhaps yuccies should consider a career in PR – a creative sector if ever there was one! As a B2B PR agency that prides itself on Natural Storytelling, we go about planning and delivering creative PR campaigns on behalf of our clients that aren’t too financially draining. We like to call it ‘bang for buck,’ and there’s no way of getting it other than creatively foraging for authentic stories.
So are you a yuccie looking for your next career move? We’re looking for an SAE/AM to join the Skout team, and we’re definitely on the hunt for a creative individual who can think critically and laterally to get results.
So yuccie or not, if you have strong B2B, tech or SME experience, a minimum of three years experience in a UK PR agency and the other traits we list here, it’s time for you to show us what you have to offer. Please send your CV and covering letter telling us what you have to offer to claire.lamb@skoutpr.com.
